Hello friends,
I’m raising funds to be able to attend Waging Peace: A Militarism Summit, a conference organized by several Mennonite organizations.
I want go for a few reasons:
1. I think I can add a lot to the conversation, particularly on the issues of draft resistance, conscientious objection to war, and the ways that Peace churches can support those who resist war — and I would be bringing my interfaith perspective (as a former Mennonite minister who is now committed to Judaism, but who has maintained ties to the Mennonite peace tradition).
2. I would be coming back with a lot of new information to share to faith and activist communities in Oklahoma.
3. One of my old military law clients, Joy Metzler, is one of the keynote speakers for this event!
The estimated costs for me to attend this conference are:
$400 – round-trip airfare
$100 – ground transportation to Leola, PA
$180 – 3 nights of lodging at a Mennonite guest house
$75 – convention registration
Financially, I would be a stretch for me to attend, so I thought I would ask some of my friends and supporters to see if they can help. If you would like to donate, you can do so via paypal at the link below:
Also for any faith communities who would like to give, please contact me as I would be glad to come speak to your community after the summit.
Thanks to all who can give!
James
P.S. If insufficient funds are raised to make this trip, any donations made will be refunded back to donors.
