A very thoughtful piece but the headline is misleading. doesn’t bar vasectomies, but rather does. Most Jews today (but especially those in the Reform, Reconstructionist, and Humanistic movements) do not treat halalah as binding in the traditional sense.

On a related note —- getting a vasectomy was one of the best decisions of my life, so I am always glad to talk to anyone who is considering the procedure but who is nervous about it.
