Kveller.com: I’m a rabbi who had a vasectomy even though Judaism prohibits it.
A very thoughtful piece but the headline is misleading. #Judaism doesn’t bar vasectomies, but rather #halakha does. Most Jews today (but especially those in the Reform, Reconstructionist, and Humanistic movements) do not treat halalah as binding in the traditional sense.
On a related note —- getting a vasectomy was one of the best decisions of my life, so I am always glad to talk to anyone who is considering the procedure but who is nervous about it.
